High school students may participate in the following programs and, upon completing the coursework, earn college credits documented on an RVCC transcript.
High School Early Credits Program
The High School Early Credits Program allows qualified high school juniors and seniors with a minimum of 3.0 cumulatice grade point average to enroll in college-level courses at RVCC and to earn college credit upon satisfactory completion. To participate, students obtain an Early Credits Program Registration/Agreement Form from the RVCC website. After completing the form, obtaining the signature of the high school principal or guidance counselor, and getting a copy of their high school transcript, students should apply online and arrange a meeting with an RVCC advisor or counselor. An RVCC advisor or counselor’s signature is required in order to register for the first time.
Students must meet prerequisite requirements for all courses. Some courses may require proof of prerequisite testing/placement. Depending on the course(s) taken, credits may be used to satisfy degree requirements at RVCC or another college according to the receiving college’s transfer policy. Courses will be charged at the full tuition rate. For forms and more information, please refer to the College’s website or the RVCC Admissions and Recruitment Office at (908) 526-1200, extension 7009.
Concurrent Enrollment Program
The Concurrent Enrollment Program (CEP) is a partnership between Raritan Valley Community College and area high schools. This program is largely offered to high school juniors and seniors who have appropriate academic requirements to take courses at their local high school and earn academic credit that simultaneously fulfills high school graduation requirements and college credit requirements. Each high school, in conjunction with RVCC, determines the course(s) that will be offered through the Concurrent Enrollment Program.
Students who participate in CEP earn credits towards a college degree, receive significantly reduced tuition rate, enhance their opportunities for challenging work, set themselves apart from other college applicants and prepare for their future college education or career. College credits earned can be applied toward RVCC degree programs or transferred to other colleges and universities across the nation in accordance with the receiving colleges’ transfer policies.
In order to participate in the Concurrent Enrollment Program, a student must have at least a B average, parental consent, guidance counselor approval, and appropriate RVCC Placement Test scores if enrolling in an English, Math, or foreign language course (or a course requiring these as a prerequisite). The placement test may be waived for certain courses with suitable levels on the SAT, ACT or PARCC.
