Early Childhood STEM, Certificate of Completion

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Academic Programs (alphabetical)

The Early Childhood STEM Certificate of Completion program combines the theoretical foundations in early growth and development with the practical skills necessary for teachers of birth through age 4 children. The program includes courses that cover fundamental areas of development, the development of STEM curriculum planning and implementation, STEM teaching methodologies, fundamental principles of nutrition, health, and safety in an early learning environment, field observation opportunities, and standards of professionalism.
Students completing the Certificate of Completion program will begin to meet the academic requirements for the Child Development Associate (CDA) credential through the Council of Professional Recognition, the academic requirements for the Group Teacher endorsement from the New Jersey Registry for Childhood Professionals, Professional Impact New Jersey, Certified Child Care Professional (CCP) certificate, and the New Jersey Infant/Toddler Credential through Professional Impact New Jersey. The Certificate of Completion program can be applied toward the Early Childhood Education Certificate program which fully satisfies the academic coursework for the CDA credential and the Group Teacher endorsement. This program may not transfer to a four-year institution.

Graduates are able to:

  • think critically and communicate effectively, orally and in writing
  • develop and implement STEM curriculum for use in early childhood learning settings
  • identify and use methodologies for the delivery of instruction as it relates to the STEM disciplines
  • demonstrate observation techniques in early learning settings
  • identify developmentally appropriate practice as it correlates to the  early childhood learning setting

NOTE: Students in this program may not be eligible for Financial Aid; students should meet with an Academic Advisor or Financial Aid staff to discuss options for Financial Aid eligibility.
