COMM 220 - Introduction to Nonverbal Communication

Prerequisite(s): One of the following: COMM 101 - Speech , COMM 110 - Interpersonal Communication  or permission of instructor.
Introduction to Nonverbal Communication is a course that explores theories and types of nonverbal behavior in relation to the overall communication process. Knowledge and practical skills will be gained through a diverse study of the different types of nonverbal communication such as appearance, body movement, haptics (touch), proxemics (space), chronemics (time), paralanguage (voice), etc. Students will analyze the influence of language, perceptions, social roles, physical environment, culture and media on the nonverbal communication process. Content of the course will help students become more competent communicators with other individuals and groups.
