WGST 110 - Introduction to Women and Gender Studies (3,0) 3 Credits
General Education Course: Global and Cultural Awareness This interdisciplinary course introduces students to the study of women and gender. Students will explore the meaning of gender and gender inequality, how gender relates to sexuality, and how gender is constructed and mediated by historical, social, global, and political influences. The course draws on methodologies of the following disciplines, including but not limited to: sociology, philosophy, history, psychology, cultural studies, and literary studies. Readings will explore the impact of gender and its relationship to issues such as race, ethnicity, class, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, immigration, ability, age, nation, and/or language.
