MUSC 231 - Applied Music: Primary Instrument III

Prerequisite(s): Audition with private instructor. All students interested in these courses must interview with the music department faculty before enrolling.
This course provides credit for individual performance study on an instrument or voice with a member of the music faculty or with a private teacher (off-campus) approved by the music faculty. An audition with this teacher will be mandatory. It is designed primarily for the music major for advanced study on their primary instrument or for those with adequate background. The instruction may be in piano, harpsichord, organ, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba, violin, viola, cello, clarinet, viola, cello, string bass, harp, guitar, bass guitar, percussion or voice. Students will arrange with the applied instructor for a minimum of twelve weekly lessons during the semester. The performance study is intended to prepare the music option student for a transfer program entrance audition and for advanced applied music study. Repertory studied will vary according to the student’s instrument or voice and performance level. Students are required to perform for a faculty jury each semester and to perform in at least one student recital a year. Attendance at student recitals is required. Fees for the weekly lessons will be paid directly to the private instructor.
