Computer Networking and Security, Certificate – Traditional Emphasis

This certificate program prepares students for employment in network and security administration, network troubleshooting, basic computer forensics and basic network management in a variety of industries. This Traditional Emphasis Certificate exposes students to the issues involved in designing, managing and securing Computer Networks. A broad base of knowledge is built on traditional LAN and WAN protocols and topologies and various Network Operating Systems such as Windows Server versions and UNIX/LINUX versions.

The credits earned in this certificate program can be used toward the Associate of Applied Science Degree in Computer Networking.

Graduates are able to:

  • comprehend the many LAN and WAN protocols and network operating systems in use today with particular emphasis on TCP/IP versions 4 and 6
  • perform basic networking troubleshooting using both hardware and software techniques
  • differentiate the functions of modems, switches, routers, firewalls and other telecommunications equipment
  • assess the security needs for a network based on topology, applications and user needs
  • identify sources of reliable information regarding security risks, vulnerabilities, threats, and security problem resolution
