Technical Studies, Associate of Applied Science

The Associate of Applied Science Degree in Technical Studies is designed to further the education of students who have completed specific American Council of Education (ACE)-approved apprenticeships or corporate, industrial, or military programs.  ACE-acceptable apprenticeships include but are not limited to:

  • Carpenters
  • Department of Corrections
  • Electrical Works (IBEW)
  • Heat and Frost Insulators and Asbestos Workers
  • Iron Workers
  • Plumbers/Pipefitters
  • Sheet Metal Workers

The program includes some traditional general education courses and career electives in a concentration that advances students’ technical skills.

Technical Studies Core


Up to 25 college credits can be applied to this program upon presentation of official proof of completion of an American Council on Education (ACE) approved apprenticeship or corporate, industrial, collegiate or military program to the Enrollment Services Office.

Career Electives


Complete 15 credits from one of the following concentrations, in consultation with a Faculty Advisor:

Automotive Technology
Computer Science
Engineering Science
Environmental Controls Technology (HVAC)

Total Credits for A.A.S. Degree 61 - 62


1 Select a course from the appropriate category of the General Education & Computer Science Electives List  list.
2 Mathematics by official placement test. Students may not take courses below placement level.
3 PSYC 103 Introduction to Psychology  , SOCI 101 Introduction to Sociology  , ECON 101 Macroeconomics  , or ECON 102 Microeconomics  are recommended.
