Hybrid and Electric Vehicles, Certificate of Completion


The Hybrid and Electric Vehicles Certificate of Completion is intended to further prepare graduates of the Automotive Technology AAS degree program for entry into the automotive workplace by providing additional instruction in the area of hybrid and electric vehicles. 1  The added exposure to hybrid and electric vehicles will make graduates more employable.

The Certificate of Completion includes instruction in the areas of engines, fuel and ignition systems, electronics, brakes, transmissions, steering and suspension systems, and other hybrid and electric vehicle systems. Training is conducted through a combination of didactic instruction and practical shop work so that students can develop the essential diagnostic and mechanical competencies. Courses in this Certificate of Completion prepare students to take the corresponding Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) and Electrical Safety (xEV) certification tests.

Graduates are able to:

  • demonstrate the skills necessary to diagnose, service, and repair automotive systems (ICE, Hybrid, & EV’s) encountered in skill-level B and C to industry standards. 
  • demonstrate the safe and proper use of tools and equipment necessary to diagnose and repair automotive systems (ICE, Hybrid, & EV’s) to an acceptable standard in the automotive industry.
  • complete corresponding xEV and industry certifications

1 Graduates of RVCC’s Automotive Technology AAS degree program should register for AUTC 226 xEV Level Two: High-Voltage Vehicle Technician  .

2 Graduates of RVCC’s Automotive Technology Certificate program will need permission from the Automotive Technology Program Coordinator to register for AUTC 225 xEV Level One: Electrically Aware Person  .
