The Associate of Science in Game Art prepares students who intend to transfer to Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) and Bachelor of Science (B.S.) programs, at four-year institutions and professional technical and art schools. In this A.S. program, students are trained in industry standard art making techniques and technologies specific to game design and related interactive media. There are well-equipped studios and computer systems to support this major.
This program focuses on the traditional arts such as drawing and two-dimensional design while learning how to apply these skills to interactive technological environments. Students also will be exposed to audio production, video editing and other multimedia skills. They will work with programmers to understand how game architecture and the underlying structure impacts the making of two dimensional and interactive media assets.
Graduates are able to:
- demonstrate concept development and visual planning strategies towards creative solutions to game design problems.
- apply industry standard tools such as software and hardware to solve design problems.
- identify major game design trends and influences from historic, cultural and social perspectives.
- demonstrate the application of analysis and problem solving to achieve design solutions.
- demonstrate technical and artistic development throughout a portfolio of game assets and stylistically diverse, working game projects.
Raritan Valley Community College Associate of Arts (AA) and Associate of Science (AS) degree programs are designed to comply with the New Jersey Community Colleges General Education Foundation which supports transfer of courses to NJ Public four-year colleges and universities. Students who intend to transfer to a NJ college or university can further improve the transfer of courses by using the Recommended Transfer Program (RTP) feature in NJTransfer.org.
