Computer Networking & Cybersecurity, an option of the Associate of Applied Science degree program in Computer Information Systems, prepares students for employment in network support, network design, network management and network security in an Information Technology sector within any of today’s companies that rely on networks in order to support their business processes. Graduates of this program may qualify to become network administrators, responsible for the day-to-day operations and management of networking systems.
Students gain hands-on experience in network support, management and design using Cisco based equipment and operating systems. The core of the curriculum is based on the Cisco Networking Academy curriculum which is recognized worldwide as preparation for the Certified Cisco Network Associate (CCNA) professional certification. Students are also introduced to the essentials of network security and computer forensics.
Graduates are able to:
- design, administer and monitor a local area network
- analyze and solve computer networking problems in hardware and software
- configure Cisco routers and switches
- assess the security needs for a network based on topology, applications and user needs
- implement a secure network to mitigate its vulnerabilities, threats, and attacks
