Esthetics, Certificate of Professional Competency

Licensed Estheticians are able to perform skin care treatments, makeup applications and hair removal services in the beauty profession. The Esthetics Certificate of Professional Competency offers an introduction to career opportunities and successful practices in the day spa and full service salon industry.  Massage and electrotherapy treatments will be taught to complement facials and other corrective skin care services. Students will study salon business practices and prepare for employment.

This noncredit program is designed with local employers’ input to best prepare students for the workforce and meets the minimum 600 hours of training required to become a New Jersey licensed Skin Care Specialist. Upon completion of 300 hours, students will be required to perform services in the student salon and spa. They are also eligible to work with a student permit in a full service salon or spa. All related sciences are covered as they apply to each topic. These sciences include: anatomy and physiology, structure of the skin, infection control, basic chemistry and electricity.
