Computer Programming, Associate of Applied Science

The Computer Programming Associate of Applied Science degree program prepares students to enter various paraprofessional and professional careers in computer programming, which is the process of preparing a sequence of coded instructions that directs a computer’s operations.

Students develop an understanding of the basic concepts and tools of programming. They are taught programming, systems and procedural concepts and analyses, computer operations and business concepts. The College is located near many corporate and governmental computing centers that employ programming personnel. The College has been successful in assisting graduates in obtaining employment through its cooperative education program and job placement services.

Graduates are able to:

  • solve information processing problems by producing well designed algorithms and using object-oriented programming language for application development
  • verify and test accuracy and completeness of programs by preparing sample data and by using debugging techniques and software aids
  • use database design principles to produce efficient databases
  • recognize the ethical, social and economic implications of the uses of the computer
  • prepare appropriate documentation of programs and systems to illustrate information flow
  • collaborate effectively as a member of a team to interpret data by applying quantitative reasoning used in the analysis and design of business systems

1 Any course from ACCT, BUSI, or MRKT.  BUSI 111 Introduction to Business   is recommended.

2 COMP 102 Computer Literacy  cannot be used as a General Education course in this program. 

3 Select a course from the appropriate category of the Computer and Programming Electives List .  Students must complete a minimum of 13 elective credits from the Computer and Programming Electives List 

4 Select a course from the appropriate category of the General Education  List.
